My 5 Favorite Green Beauty Bag Products!

As of September 2nd at 12:56 am here are my top 5 products from Green Beauty Bag:

NYR logo1) Neals Yard Remedies Wild Rose Beauty Balm

This is hands down one of my fave most versatile products I have ever used!  In the winter it serves as my day and night time moisture.   I put it on in the morning, let it absorb for a few minutes while I brush my teeth and dry my hair.  Then I apply my makeup directly on top and man oh man it keeps my skin hydrated and my makeup looking fresh all day long.  During the summer (when I like a lighter feel moisturizer all over my skin) my WRBB is my lip balm, night time serum 2x a week, and just ask my husband my cure all recommendation for EVERYTHING: chapped cheeks from skiing,  cracking dry hands/fingers, burns, diaper rash, you name it!  Did I mention is comes with an organic muslin cloth?  Love this product I truly can’t say enough great things about it!!

2) ErbaOrganics Stretch Mark Cream

Being 8 months pregnant I am not quite sure how my stomach is going to stretch much more for this sworganic stretch mark creameet little baby to grow, but everyone tells me, “You just wait it’s possible!”  And since stretch marks from pregnancy run in my family I want to do all I can do to help avoid them if possible.  So for the last three months I have been applying this stretch mark cream every morning and night (well not quite every night, but you get the picture). I love the feel. I can get dressed right after application without worrying about it staining or absorbing into my clothes while at the same time I can feel the lotion still moisturizing my skin hours later.  When I start to feel itchy (the skin stretching) I get immediate relief as soon as I apply the cream to my tummy.  Also, because an extra 25 pounds has made me a bit lazy, I opted for using the cream as my all over body lotion one day when my usual bottle was MIA and my legs looked so shiny (yet not greasy) all day.

3) Oregon Soap Company Foaming Soap: Pacific Northwest Lavendernautral soap pump

This soap lasts forever, no jokes.  My 2 1/2 year old LOVES using it after going on the big girl potty. Honestly I used it as a bribe to get her fully potty trained letting her use a pump or two of the foam soap after using the restroom, which you better believe it worked like a charm, of course I threw in some Hershey Kisses every now and then too.  The pump of foam smells nice and light, void of the many yucky chemicals found in other hand soaps, doesn’t strip the skin, and truly it seems to be a never ending supply!

4) Coola Mineral Face Tint Rose SPF 20tinted SPF moisturizer

After trying so many different facial screens in search of one that didn’t feel/look like a mask on top of my skin, cause congestion, smell like I was on my way to the pool, and void of the chemicals I found Coola.  This brand is amazing.  The brand constantly has one of the lowest scores with the Environmental Working Group.  If you aren’t familiar with the EWG they rate products based on their ingredients and the lower the rating the safer the product.  All of the Coola mineral SPFs have a smooth glide and a light feel,  similar to a make up primer.  I like the Rose tint in particular because the rose helps combat my redness and the tint (although super mild) is a nice base on days I am not going into my whole makeup regime.

5) Organyc Cotton Ballsorganic cotton balls

This one sounds silly I know, a cotton ball really?  But bear with me here.  These cotton balls first and foremost are organic cotton.  Did you know that more pesticides are used in the production of cotton than any other crop? Aldicarp is a commonly used cotton pesticide. A single drop of aldicarp absorbed through the skin can kill an adult.  Many countries have banned the use of this chemical, not the U.S. With that said we already have a winner with using organic cotton on our skin right?  But to be a little more vain, these cotton balls are the softest cotton I have ever felt.  They do not pull on the skin whatsoever so I love them for cleaning under my eyes on that delicate tissue.

I would love to hear from you!  What are your favorite products right now offered by Green Beauty Bag?

Examples of our Green Beauty Bags

Good morning!!

We have gotten several requests from those looking to become a Green Beauty asking exactly just what they can expect in their Green Beauty Bags.  So I thought I would take this chance to show you some of the amazing possibilities.

emerald2First things first, there are three different Green Beauty Bag quarterly subscriptions to choose from: Sage (49.99), Jade (99.99), Emerald (149.99).  Each of these bags offer the same level of service: a professional skin expert choosing products specifically for you from our expansive natural, organic lines.  The only difference is the total price point of all the products included.

For example: Let’s say you fill out your skin intake quiz and you have indicated you have dehydrated skin, love the smell of frankincense and lavender, spend around $30/month on beauty care, in serious need of a good SPF, and have a new baby.  Your skin care expert will take this information to put together a Jade GBB  possibly consisting of:

Plus of course instruction cards for each product and a description of why your esthetician chose the specific products for you.  After weeks of using your products you sign into your account and review each product.  Next quarter your Green Beauty Bag will be even further customized based on your preferences.

Green Beauty Bag also has one other option: Green Horn.  This is not a subscription bag but a one time service offering a great gift idea or way to sample our GBB service.  Green Horn, a one time bag for 49.99, consists of various themes to choose from (active, baby, teen, body, face…) and a quick quiz to complete to customize the products included just like our subscription service.

For example: You have a teenage son that is starting to experience breakouts and you would like to get him started on a skin care regime.  You choose a Teen Green Horn GBB, fill out the quiz indicating your son has no allergies, never used any products, would LOVE to see a deep cleanser included, and has oily/congested skin.  Your skin care professional will take these quiz results and put together a Green Horn Bag consisting of:

Plus of course instruction cards for each product and a description of why your esthetician chose the specific products for you.

So there you have it!  I would love to answer any questions and respond to any comments you leave below.  Have a beautiful day!

Lela Barker, began a mission to unearth why her sister an otherwise healthy woman in her 20’s developed breast tumors. She stumbled upon a study which indicated that parabens mimicked estrogen in women’s bodies, leading to the development of breast tumors. After scouring her bathroom for products containing the ingredient, she was horrified to learn that parabens were in everything from her shampoo to her body lotion.    As a result in 2003, Bella Lucce was born.

Sunscreen is SOOO important because…

More than 3.5 million skin cancers in more than 2 million people are diagnosed annually. AND many of these skin cancers could have been prevented with protection from the sun’s rays. (https://www.aad.org/media-resources/stats-and-facts/prevention-and-care/sunscreen-faqs, n.d.)

Sun Care ProductsPlus as if that’s not enough of a reason to lather on the screen, 90% of skin aging can be contributed to the effects of the sun, often referred to as photoaging!! Sun exposure over time begins to alter the structure of the skin, causing wrinkles, loss of elasticity and tone, hyperpigmentation, broken capillaries, and keratosis: rough, scaly spots that can be precancerous.

Yes our genetics are partly the cause of how our skin ages. However, photoaging is an even larger factor and the good news: it is completely within our control and easily preventable. Since sun damage is cumulative (meaning 15 minutes here and there add up to hours of sun exposure) it is never too late to start protecting your skin with sunscreen!

Not sure which screen to pick?? The American Academy of Dermatology recommends everyone properly use sunscreen that offers the following:

  • Broad-spectrum protection (protects against UVA and UVB rays). There are two types of sun rays from which we need to be protecting our skin.   UVB rays penetrate the epidermal or outer layer of the skin which usually presents the damage it causes the skin through sunburn.  UVA radiation, while also damaging the epidermis, penetrates deeper into the skin to the level of the dermis.  It has recently been discovered that although skin cancer presents itself in the top layer of the skin (epidermal layer) that truly the cellular damage from the UVA rays deeper below the surface changes the cell structure perhaps leading to the cancerous cell development.
  • Sun Protection Factor (SPF) 30 or greater. Dermatologists recommend using a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30, which blocks 97% of the sun’s rays. Higher number SPFs block slightly more of the sun’s rays but no sunscreen can block 100% of the sun’s rays. High-number SPFs last the same amount of time as low-number SPFs and should be applied approximately every two hours when outdoors, even on cloudy days, and after swimming or sweating.
  • Water resistance.

Once you have chosen the best sunscreen for you by checking out all our Green Beauty options.  How do you make sure you are applying it correctly? Again the American Academy of Dermatology recommends:

  • Apply the sunscreen to dry skin 15 minutes BEFORE going outdoors.
  • Use enough sunscreen to generously coat all skin that will be not be covered by clothing. Ask yourself, “Will my face, ears, arms, or hands be covered by clothing?” If not, apply sunscreen. Most people only apply 25-50% of the recommended amount of sunscreen.
  • Follow the guideline of “one ounce, enough to fill a shot glass”, which dermatologists consider the amount needed to cover the exposed areas of the body. Adjust the amount of sunscreen applied depending on your body size.
  • Re-apply approximately every two hours or as indicated on the label, even on cloudy days, AND after swimming or sweating.

WHY ORGANIC, NATURAL PRODUCTS?

The most common question I receive from my first time clients or even when simply engaging in a casual conversation with someone who asks what I do for a living is why I choose to focus on natural, organic skin care.  The number one hesitation that typically follows goes something like “BUT I want something that actually works, packs a punch!”  Honestly, I love these chances to share my passion with those that want to know all about why I have dedicated my career to focus on healthy beauty.  We all love to talk about what we love right?

Moisturizers

NOT SO FUN FACTS
• Women on average wear 11 products a day, while teenagers wear around 17. According to an article by Maureen Rice, “the average woman’s daily grooming and make-up routine means she ‘hosts’ a staggering 515 different synthetic chemicals on her body every single day.” (Rice, 2009)

• One of my favorite blog post by Ashley Steinbrink offers a great infographic explaining the toxins we absorb through our skin. She states, “Adults absorb 60% of what we put on our skin. There’s a difference between putting things on your skin compared to in your mouth…the enzymes in your saliva and stomach help break down the chemicals and flush them out. But when you put something on your skin, it goes right to your organs through your bloodstream and doesn’t filter the toxins at all.” (Steinbrink, 2012) It only takes 26 seconds after applying a product on your skin for the chemicals it contains can be found in every organ in your body.

Cosmetics Shopping• This is straight from the FDA website: “Under the FD&C Act, cosmetic products and ingredients, with the exception of color additives, do not require FDA approval before they go on the market.” (Is it a Cosmetic, Drug, or both?, n.d.) A cosmetic company can register their ingredients with the FDA and state that on their label. However, that does not mean they are approved. The FDA will step in if there have been several claims against a certain product, company, or ingredient. However, they do not approve ingredients before they are put on the shelf. To date the FDA has banned 10 ingredients in the United States of America while the European Union has banned 1,100 ingredients.

ACTUAL FUN FACTS
• Organic products have a higher level of anti-oxidants and active ingredients. These anti-oxidants help defend our cells from free radical damage protecting our collagen and elastase (skin’s structural components). This in turn leads to a healthier, smoother, fresh, and vibrant complexion. They really do work!

Kids• You don’t have to worry about any hidden pesticide residue as the ingredients have been grown or produced without the use of pesticides, or chemical solvents. “Organic skin care products are produced in a socially responsible way without harm to wildlife, the environment, people or animals. They are either wild harvested, grown from organic farms or handmade with care and attention.” (Kalia-Sagoo, n.d.)

• You truly get what you pay for. Organic beauty products, much like food, tend to cost more initially.  Keep in mind with organic products less is more. Even when it comes to the quantity you use.  You don’t need to use as much of an organic product as there aren’t fillers.  A little bit goes a long way, so a product will last you longer.  Green beauty products are full of non-toxic ingredients you can trust keeping you safe from all the possible side effects associated with chemicals in other types of products such as hormone disruption, cancer, skin allergies, dermatitis, insomnia, labored breathing, and neurotoxicity, to name a few.

I hope these “fun facts” offered some insight as to why I am so passionate about sharing clean, green personal care products with so many people.  I believe in the majestic power of nature, never compromising your health for beauty. ~Kileigh Knott
